Prince Harry is touring the Caribbean to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee year. His visit to Jamaica came at a time when Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller was calling for the Caribbean island to cut all ties with Britain and ditch the monarchy.

Jamaica achieved its independence from Britain in 1962 but retained the monarchy, meaning Queen Elizabeth is the island’s head of state and Queen of Jamaica in her own right.

“We came on a long journey from slavery to adult suffrage to our independence and we are now a nation, I believe, our maturity is now saying that we should look to a form of government that would, at this time, take full charge of our destiny,” Simpson Miller said.

The video, put together by the Jamaica Labour Party as a propaganda piece, shows how hot-headed the prime minister can be. We’re sure she’ll get her message across in a more reasoned fashion.
