Five fun things to do at home

The government have set out their roadmap out of lockdown. If all goes well, things should be back to normal on 21 June. We’ve still got a few months to go before we can go out and enjoy the outdoors to the fullest, so here are five fun things you can do at home.

Check your ancestry

Ancestry.co.uk is a great place to start your family history journey. Their records range from census records, wills, birth certificates, and even information about people’s jobs. Once you start adding family names and dates, you’ll get suggestions for where to look next and lead you to even more discoveries. Who knows, you might even be related to Beyonce or Rihanna.

For tips on tracing your ancestry read about my ancestry journey.

Take a masterclass

Now’s the chance to upskill if you didn’t do something new during the lockdown. Join Masterclass is a hub of online courses taught by experts and celebrities in any given field. That’s right, some of your favourite celebrities there, to teach you how to be good at what they do. Let Sir John teach you how to create makeup looks for any moment, or let Issa Rae teach you how to create outside the lines.

Take up painting

Painting is a great creative way to spend your lockdown. You can buy Painting & Bubbly Art Kits from Brush & Bubbles and start your creative journey. The kits include 3 canvases (8×10), 1 x mini canvas and easel, 2 sets of paintbrushes, 1 paint palette, 2 packs of 12ml acrylic paints, and 1 pack of 21ml acrylic paints, 1 can of bubbly, and a Brush & Bubbles keepsake box. Order a kit and join their virtual paint-along.

Have a barbecue

Now that we are allowed to meet up with six friends in an outside setting, you could kick off the summer with a barbecue.

You can take the strain off by ordering BBQ In A Box – a food delivery service and concept delivering freshly marinated meats and delicious sides to doorsteps at the click of a button.

Chef AJ Mair combines his Caribbean heritage into Barbecue In A Box cuisine with a delicious range of spice-laden, exquisitely seasoned dishes. This enticing box includes homemade ground pasture-fed beef burgers with bacon, 24-hour marinated jerk chicken, tangy Cheddar cheese and freshly baked brioche buns. The fish options include King prawn kebabs, or the Thai infused sweet chilli salmon steaks. Some of the most popular side dishes include the legendary BBQ In A Box purple slaw finished with pomegranate and parsley, pillowy-soft halloumi bites, and corn-on-the-cob with a special herbed butter. BBQ In A Box boxes start from £40 plus postage and packaging and can be ordered on Allinabox.co.uk.

Design your own jewellery

For fashionistas who love personalised jewellery, Cast Bespoke Jewellery Making Kit (from £29) has everything you need. Inside the kit, you get a selection of wax starting shapes, our high-quality carving knife, two unique steel shaping tools, a gold needle file, two different types of shaping sandpaper, a safe return tin and your UK Freepost envelope.

Once your wax is complete, send it back to their workshop inside the Freepost envelope, and they’ll cast your ring in solid Sterling Silver, hand-finish and return it to your specification within three weeks.

So that’s our list. If you have other fun ideas, drop them in the comments.
